Dear Allison: Welcome to Florida, I guess. My own association to the name of this storm was different, since Fay was my mother's name. The only way I could explain this strange coincidence to myself was to suppose that whatever the effects of all this rain, I could be sure that somehow it was intended for my own good!

And now we know about the incredible courage of Greg McKendry who gave his life to protect others. With gratitude for the many lives that were spared, I'm thinking we now have a modern-day martyr in Greg McKendry. My deepest sympathy to his loved ones and his congregation.

Dear Allison,
I just printed your words to share with the members and staff of First Unitarian Church of Baltimore as we plan a vigl for Wednesday night and struggle to understand "the logic of violence [which] is always senseless."

Allison,
Thank you for your words. Tammy and I are saddened by this dreadful event and are thinking about those in our extended UU family who are profoundly affected.

Allison, I can not imagine how both grateful and violated you must feel. A sanctuary is supposed to be just that.

I preached in Baltimore two Sundays ago about this very topic. It was a pretty crappy sermon, but one thing that I mentioned was that many UUs have a tendency to ignore religious language, but what would benefit us (and our kids!) more would be to play more with religious language. Play is how we learn things, how we bond and how we love one another. I think learning to play with religious language can be an incredibly rewarding (and calming) experience, especially for folks who have a hard time with traditional religious language. Oh, and also? You rock! :)

Dear Allison, 'Love your "dream of church as a Place where..." etc. And I'd like to hear you expand this into a sermon--It is a most worthy subject! UUCFM is a special Place in my life and I'd like to see it become special for others, too!
We're looking forward to your prescence in our special Place!
Hugs, judy Burget
